What's burning in your heart?

Marked for God

I've always loved the imagery of the guys going down the road to the city of Emmaues. As they were "walking and talking," Jesus joined them and entered into the conversation.

Something amazing always transpires when we make time to "walk and talk." Hearts are softened, layers of "life" are shared, sweet communion and fellowship transpire.

Luke 24 records the "walk and talk" that Jesus had with these guys discussing the events that had just transpired in Jerusalem.

In my Holy Ghost imagination, I picture Jesus enjoying this conversation. Especially since He was a first-hand witness to all the events.

It was His death and resurrection they were in deep conversation over.

As they approached their home, Jesus made it appear as though He was going to continue His journey and leave their company. They were adamant that He must come and join them for a meal.

In the breaking of bread, (fellowship) the Scriptures tell us, their eyes were opened. They recognized Him. Then He vanished from their sight. Wow!

Then they said, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" (32)

"Walk and talks" are never wasted time.

In our world it's become the norm to have 45 minute or less meetings to discuss various issues of the moment. That works in a business setting.

However, for spiritual depth and impact several hours are often necessary in order to uncover matters of the heart and get to the "burning within" place of deep calling unto deep.

In our fellowship with the Lord, it's also vital to spend chunks of time just being with Him. Not the daily read-a-chapter, pray-through-the-prayer-list, sing a couple songs and out the door we go. That can easily become religious ritual and fall very short of heart-to-heart communion. Spending time to quiet yourself and tune into His heart is vital.

Our flesh finds comfort in the ritual of "do this and that" and then you've done your "prayer time."

Our inner man, our spirit however, craves to commune with the Lord, spirit to Spirit.

We can't snap our fingers and expect God to open up His heart to us. It doesn't work like that. We make time to put Him foremost and hang out with Him purposefully.

As we "walk and talk" with Him we discover that our hearts are burning within too. It just gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by.

My prayer for myself is: "Burn in my heart, Lord! Firebrand me with Your Spirit, with Your Word." Is that your prayer today?

 Isaiah 46:9-11

"I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand and I will do all that I please'...What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.
